![]() Pick up my sci-fi series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is now in print, online and on audiobook. I’m excited to hear more about Pokémon Stars, but I’ve gone from expecting it to come to the Switch to very much doubting that will be the case, given Nintendo’s recent priorities.įollow me on Twitter and on Facebook. Unless Nintendo is planning a 4DS to exist alongside the Switch (which I think would be crazy), the writing kind of seems like it’s on the wall. I just do not think the market is big enough for two gaming handhelds, particularly not two by the same company, which despite different types of games and different prices, will start to cannibalize each other at a certain point. I still maintain that the 3DS and Switch have to merge eventually. The internal flap protects the screen while housing up to 10. And to be fair, it’s not as if the Switch needs the help, as it’s probably going to keep selling out through the end of the year, and has a seemingly never-ending parade of blockbuster games being released for it, now with Zelda and Mario Kart, later with Splatoon and Mario Odyssey, all in this first launch year. Special internal construction holds either the Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite securely in place. With Nintendo trying to squeeze out more sales and keep the 3DS going as long as they can, that’s not something they want to do. As soon as Nintendo starts sharing its dedicated handheld series with the Switch, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, etc., that essentially signals to everyone that support is ending for the 3DS imminently. But even though logical would dictate that the Switch, with its innate ability to be a handheld system itself, should absorb the 3DS at some point, that does not seem to be something Nintendo is open to at the moment.Īs such, I don’t think Nintendo is going to start hammering nails in the coffin of the 3DS by letting the Switch have Pokémon Stars, as great as that would be. Nintendo has always found huge success with its handhelds, and with 65 million 3DS sold, that system has been no exception. They just announced the New 2DS XL, a refined, upgraded version of the 2DS, and that does not seem like something you would do if you’re planning to phase out a product line in six months. Hopefully, Pokemon Stars is real- we at GamingBolt will keep you apprised on whether or not it is.Officially, the 3DS is going to be supported through 2017, but it seems like Nintendo is committed for a longer haul than that, despite the system being six years old at this point. ![]() There are new Pokémon to collect, new gyms to defeat, and lots of fun multiplayer catching to do in the Wild Area dens. The most recent generation of the core Pokémon RPG has players exploring the UK-inspired Galar region. ![]() It is also important to note that The Pokemon Company has been known for such playful, cryptic hints before, such as the mysterious gold and silver balls that they decorated their studio with before Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver were announced, or Pokemon producer Junichi Masuada tweeting the picture of a moon without explanation ahead of the official announcement of Pokemon Sun/Moon. Protector:Pokémon Sword - Exclusively on Nintendo Switch. It is important to keep in mind that this does not even remotely pass for an official confirmation. Which is why this newest tease by a new line of Pokemon merchandize, just introduced in Japan, is intriguing- the collection is very literally named ‘Look Upon The Stars’, which seems to be as clear an allusion as anything to the long rumored game. By all indications, it is an expanded release of Pokemon Sun/Moon on the new system- so why is there so much excitement about it? Because Stars, if real, will mark the series’ debut on home consoles (inasmuch as the Nintendo Switch is a home console) and in glorious HD.
